Yes, the sequel to the oft-quoted Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy has arrived. I don’t think we’ll be seeing as many quotes from this one (thank goodness) but it’s still a damned entertaining movie.
Anchorman 2 sees Ron Burgundy reunite his news team as they begin a new adventure hosting a slot on the brand new 24 hour news network, and seek to turn the graveyard slot into the highest rated block of the show. In truth there isn’t much meat to the plot but that’s not really why you’d watch an Anchorman movie, you watch it for the humour and on this count it delivers.
There are plenty of snappy one-liners and a lot of inappropriate jokes. Steve Carell as Brick Tamland really steals the show, and he actually has some of the most touching moments of the movie when he’s paired with Kristen Wiig. The rest of the cast give good performances too, both the returning ones and the newcomers. There are a flood of celebrity cameos towards the end as well, and I won’t spoil who appears because some of them were really surprising.
With the volume of jokes that are pumped out it’s natural that some of them don’t quite hit the mark. I also felt the film was a little long too, and it dragged out a bit towards the end. That’s not to say it’s not still entertaining, I just think it could have been trimmed and tightened.
I don’t really have much else to say to be honest. It’s Anchorman. If you liked the first one you’ll like this,
